Butterfly Count at Graham Nature Preserve
We will identify and record each butterfly we see at the Ingrid Graham Historic Hellam Nature Preserve to establish a baseline of the butterfly community. We will use the data generated to determine how the butterfly population changes as we engage in ecological restoration activities. No experience is necessary. We will offer a brief overview of butterfly biology and identification and teach you how to follow a standard sampling methodology to establish our baseline count.
Note: Graham Nature Preserve is currently closed to general visitation while it undergoes the master planning process. It is open for select educational events only.
What to Expect: This event is open to ages 10 and up (anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult). This event will include a short, easy 1-mile hike. Restrooms are available onsite.

Follow the long driveway to the gravel parking lot. We will meet in front of the bank barn.
What to Bring: Dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes. Bring water and any snacks or drinks you may wish to have.
Hike Leader: Keith Williams, Vice President of Engagment and Education, is an environmental educator, naturalist, writer, and photographer. He has a BS in Environmental Biology from Kutztown University and MS in Ecological Teaching and Learning from the Lesley University Audubon Expedition Institute.
Refund Policy: If you are unable to attend this event after purchasing a ticket, refund requests must be made at least 48 hours before the event.
Animal Policy: Service animals active or in training are welcome. Please leave all pets at home.
Cancellation Policy: This event will be held rain or shine, with cancellation for severe weather made at the time of the event. If the Conservancy reschedules the event, attendees will be emailed and tickets will be automatically moved to the new date. If the Conservancy cancels the event, attendees will be notified via email when possible and refunded.
