AVB Community Band – ‘A Memorable Part of Your Holidays!’
The AVB Community Band invites you to get into the holiday spirit when it takes the stage of the Bay Port High School Performing Arts Center, 2710 Lineville Road, Green Bay (Howard), for its concert “Holiday Love and Good Cheer” on Wednesday, Dec. 18, at 7 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m.
The evening features vocalists Emily Terrell Paulsen and Ben Cahall, returning audience favorites.
Admission to the holiday concert is at no charge, but donations are accepted to help the band continue its important mission of “Music for a Lifetime.” We thank you for your generosity!
The family-friendly holiday concert is sponsored by Bellevue Family Dentistry, a longtime supporter of the AVB Community Band.

The AVB Community Band will also host its annual collection
for Paul’s Pantry in the lobby prior to the concert.
Nonperishable goods will be accepted and are sincerely appreciated
by Paul’s Pantry, which marks its 40th anniversary of service.
The pantry’s goal is to provide food to those in need to help prevent homelessness in our community.

Mike Ajango is director of the 75-member AVB (All-Volunteer) Community Band. Paul Oleksy is associate director. The narrator for the concert is band member Bruce Deadman.
Ajango said he’s excited to have vocalists Emily Terrell Paulsen and Ben Cahall back sharing their talents for the holiday concert.
“When you get Emily and Ben on the stage together, it’s always a magical evening of music,” he said.
Paulsen, a University of Wisconsin-Green Bay musical theatre graduate, has performed with Let Me Be Frank Productions, Daddy D, Play-by-Play, Calvary Players, Pamiro Opera and, most notably, as Eva Peron in the St. Norbert College Summer Music Theatre’s production of “Evita.” She currently teaches music at Webster Elementary School.
As a student at St. Norbert College, Cahall performed with The Knights on Broadway and has also performed with Let Me Be Frank Productions, St. Norbert College’s Summer Music Theatre and Daddy D Productions. Most recently, he was part of the band “FBI and the Untouchable Horns.”
“Expect an evening of traditional favorites and new pieces of music – some that speak to the emotion of the season, some just pure fun. This is our annual gift to the community, to be a memorable part of your holidays,” said Ajango.
“And, there might just be a visitor from the North Pole!” he added.
The concert opens with “Winterscape” by Gavin Lendt, capturing wintery scenes of the season, with familiar musical themes throughout.
Paulsen and Cahall treat concert-goers to a duet during “On With the Snow,” which features “Sleigh Ride,” “Winter Wonderland” and “Let it Snow! Let it Snow! Let it Snow!”
“The Eighth Candle” by Steve Reisteter is a celebration of the Hanukkah season that begins with a slow reflection on the miracle of the lamp oil and develops into a rousing celebratory dance that evokes the spirit of The Holy Land.
It is followed by a beautiful rendition of “Silent Night” with vocalist Paulsen, followed by the joyful instrumental “Toboggan Ride” and a duet with Paulsen and Cahall during “The Colours of Christmas.”
The first half concludes with a traditional favorite, the “Parade of the Wooden Soldiers” by the AVB Community Band.
After intermission, you’ll enjoy vocal favorites like “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,” followed by the moving instrumental “On An Olde English Carol,” based on the 16th-century English “Coventry Carol.”
“Sparkling Lights” is an instrumental fanfair based on “O Christmas Tree.”
The holiday evening concludes with Paulsen and Cahall leading the audience sing-a-long during “A Christmas Festival,” which features classics like “Joy To the World,” “Deck the Halls,” “God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” “Good King Wenceslas,” “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing," "Silent Night,” “Jingle Bells” and “Adeste Fideles.”
The AVB Community Band looks forward to seeing you to celebrate the season on Wednesday, Dec. 18, at 7 p.m. at the Bay Port High School Performing Arts Center!
