Algoma World Migratory Bird Day Celebration

Algoma Celebrates Birds and Ways to Protect Them The annual Algoma World Migratory Bird Day Celebration, hosted by the Bird City Algoma Committee, will be held on Saturday, April 25, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Algoma High School, 1715 Division Street. This free, family-friendly event celebrates birds and ways we can help protect them. Presentations include photographer and avid birder John Walch at 10:00 a.m. presenting “Birds are Beautiful,” and Kelsey Bell, Bird City Wisconsin Program Director with the Lake Michigan Bird Observatory, at 11:15 a.m., speaking on this year’s theme, “Every Bird Counts – Your Observations Matter.” Additional highlights include live raptors from the Raptor Education Group Inc. (10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.), expert advice on native plants and creating a bird-friendly yard, and tips for identifying birds with your phone using the free Merlin Bird ID app. Enjoy informational displays, a bird photo slideshow, and door prizes. Food will be provided by a Lakeshore Singers bake sale and Steel Belly BBQ food truck. This celebration supports Algoma’s recognition as a Bird City Wisconsin Community, a designation that recognizes communities committed to bird conservation, habitat improvement, and public education.
