Light in the Darkness
Welcome to Light in the Darkness.
This play is adapted from Victor Hugo’s Les Misérables, a story that has echoed across centuries because it speaks to something deep within the human soul—the struggle between justice and mercy, despair and hope, law and grace. At its heart, it asks a simple but profound question: Can light truly shine in the darkest of places?
In crafting this adaptation, I wanted to make Hugo’s story accessible, personal, and real. While the world of Les Misérables is filled with revolutions, barricades, and sweeping events (and yes—even the sewers!), it is also a story about individuals—ordinary people faced with extraordinary choices. That is where light begins to ignite. Every act of kindness, every moment of sacrifice, every choice to love when it would be easier to hate becomes a spark.
As always, we are so proud of our students. It has been inspiring to see them embrace the story and rise to the challenge. They dug deep to understand characters from long ago—only to discover that those people look a lot like us today. It is always our goal to point them to Christ, the true Light who illuminates even the darkest places.
May you leave tonight not only entertained, but reminded that even in our own world—where darkness can feel overwhelming—each of us has the power to carry light. And remember: no darkness is too great for His light to overcome.
