Free@3 Presents: VoxGR's Tongues of Fire
Vox GR was founded in 2022 with the mission of enriching West Michigan through compelling performances, relevant commissioning of music, and educational engagement for diverse student populations. Their vision is to transform our community with high-caliber choral music that moves the heart, engages the intellect, and honors our diversity.
Christopher Mason, their intrepid choral director, has these words:
The musical choices for Tongues of Fire were inspired by the Christian feast of Pentecost which celebrates a miracle involving a rushing wind, tongues of fire hovering above people’s heads, and the Holy Spirit translating for people of many different nations. Repertoire in the first half reflects this tradition, capped off by Cecilia McDowall’s blazing Missa Brevis with organ. The second half of the program imagines burning hearts: love’s warmth, languishing, and passion.
Thank you for your presence today. I know that you will enjoy the unique artistic experience of our professional chamber choir because we know that power of music, presented in this intimate way, effects listeners deeply. In a world where busyness is pervasive, I hope this experience moves your hearts, engages your minds, and reunites you with your own inner fire and stillness.
