Free@3 Presents: Jeremy Verwys and Alicia Eppinga, guitar/cello duo
Jeremy Verwys and Alicia Eppinga come together to perform a wide variety of works from Vivaldi and Pergolesi to contemporary composers still living today. This unique and exceptional program will appeal to lovers of all kinds of chamber music.
Jeremy Verwys is a classical guitarist and composer from West Michigan. He has received Masters’ degrees in both Guitar Performance and Music Therapy at Illinois State University. Mr. Verwys has also studied with Denis Azabagic, and Carlos De la Barrera at Grand Valley State University where he received his Bachelors of Music, Brian Morris and Andrew Bergeron at Grand Rapids Community College. Jeremy has performed with the Grand Rapids Symphony, as well as being commissioned by the dance faculty at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp and other dance studios to compose and perform original works. Mr. Verwys is currently the co-owner of West Michigan Music Therapy, LLC, and is on faculty at Cornerstone University and Grand Rapids Community College.
Alicia Eppinga has been a member of the Grand Rapids Symphony since 1989, and Principal Cello since 2011. She received her Bachelor of Music from Oberlin Conservatory and Master of Music at the Eastman School of Music. Alicia performs regularly in chamber music and solo concerts, including the Chamber Music Festival of Saugatuck and The GRAM concert series. She is a member of new music group Ensemble Montage, the Devos String Quartet, and Castalia. As a soloist, she has performed with the Holland Symphony, Kent Philharmonia and the Grand Rapids Symphony. In 2013, Alicia collaborated with composer Alexander Miller to create the Madame Bovary Concerto for Cello and Orchestra.
We are fortunate to have such a treasure trove of exceptional musicians right here in West Michigan and hope you can join us for an afternoon of beautiful music. As always, concerts are free of charge.
