Art Exhibit: 'Gorgon' by Pavlina Vagioni
DFW residents are in for a treat as artist Pavlina Vagioni presents her new exhibition ‘Gorgon’, featuring a collection of never-before-seen works. Pavlina is a Greek multimedia artist based in Houston, intricately weaves inspiration from her multicultural, multilingual, and diasporic background into her creations. ‘Gorgon’ showcases Vagioni’s diverse talents, spanning painting, sculpture, and site-specific installation, promising an immersive experience for art enthusiasts and visitors alike.
Navigating a cave-like landscape, visitors embark on a journey delving into the significance of Medusa, a prominent figure in Greek Mythology, as envisioned by artist Pavlina Vagioni. The environment unfolds with mesmerizing installations featuring intertwined snake bodies made from woven diamond hair patterns. Each snake’s head, crafted using a 3D-printed rendering of the artist’s own hands, serves as a reminder that fear is often a construct rather than an actual threat. This exploration serves as a gateway to assessing how contemporary social and cultural attitudes towards fear shape modern life.
The ‘Gorgon’ exhibition will be held at the Carillon Gallery, located in SPAC 1103A at TCC South Campus. Running from January 25 to February 22, 2024, art enthusiasts will have ample time to experience Vagioni’s thought-provoking work.
