What counts as “science” in the news? With algorithms deciding which stories we see on Facebook, should we be more concerned about who is crafting the news and which stories get covered? How should reporters cover science news in a way that is engaging, accurate, and empowering? Join science reporter Alan Yu for an enlightening discussion on science in the news.
About the Speaker
Alan Yu is a reporter for WHYY-FM’s health and science show, the Pulse. Yu was set to major in biology, but then he realized he liked writing about science more than doing research; so he left Hong Kong and went to study journalism in the United States. After interning at NPR and WBEZ in Chicago, he has never wanted to work anywhere outside of public radio. He reports on space news and all other kinds of innovation.
