Rayenari : Light-Based Art Festival

With a mission to ignite creativity and connection, we celebrate diversity, inspire dialogue, and transform spaces into vibrant reflections of our collective imagination. At the intersection of community, culture, and art. Rayenari illuminates the spirit of our shared heritage through light-based sculptures, projections, and interactive installations. By blending artistry with cultural reverence, we create a luminous tapestry where different expressions of art can come together and share the powerful message of art for families of all backgrounds. Rayenari is the Rarámuri (Tarahumara) word for sun, we are in essence bringing its light to the night through art to the City of Sunland Park. “Rayenari” is a collaborative initiative between the City of Sunland Park, NM, Associate Professor Angel Cabrales, Independent Curator Bianca Cabrales, and local businessman, Adrian Santana from Mountain Star Lighting. “Rayènari” addresses the need for more cross-cultural understanding with art and technology in the Borderplex region of Dona Ana County, NM, El Paso County, TX, and Ciudad Juarez, MX. While there are local festivals that fit this genre, Rayènari aims to expand and grow this field between art and technology within the Border culture, further delving into the science and engineering behind the arts. This involves initiatives such as cultural exchanges, educational workshops, or public events that promote dialogue and interaction among residents of all cultural backgrounds. Rayènari will feature local and regional artists from El Paso, Albuquerque and Las Cruces exhibiting light-based sculpture, projection, interactive art, mapping, neon, LED based works, cultural performances, poetry sessions designed to engage the community and highlight the region's rich cultural mosaic and provide a hands-on opportunity for participants to learn and practice different artistic techniques with a workshop provided by Horn Toad Prints. Thus, creating a platform for local artists to share their artistic talents and stories, historical and cultural context to enhance understanding of local traditions and heritage. As well as showcase local artisan vendors and food trucks. We are proud to have the City of Sunland Park sponsor and host the festival at their beautiful Sports Complex at 4700 McNutt Rd, Sunland Park, NM 88063. While presenting professional works from established artists, Rayènari will also include student works from the UTEP Sculpture Neon class, El Paso Community College Art, the Gadsden School District and Hive Education.
