HAP CareSource, in collaboration with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, is hosting a town hall meeting May 22 at Triumph Church East in Detroit to discuss the rise in substance abuse in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. The free meeting will provide the public with crucial information and resource guidance and will feature health care professionals on the front lines of this major public health crisis. Attendees will hear directly from nurses and doctors that deal with overdoses in emergency rooms and clinics every day, as well as from counselors and social workers attempting to heal mental and social wounds brought on by addiction. The meeting is open to anyone interested in learning about the opioid crisis in Michigan, the importance of mental health treatment in fighting addiction and what health plans like HAP CareSource are doing to combat the rise in drug use across multiple age groups.
Presenters at the event will talk to attendees about opioid, marijuana and alcohol addiction, the impact on families and the health care system and most importantly, critical resources that are available to individuals, families and friends coping with substance abuse. Attendees will also learn about potentially life-saving overdose reversal methods and services for those overcoming addiction.
