This August, Detroit multidisciplinary artist and engineer Lebree Jones presents NOISE, an immersive exhibition that places analog craft, digital systems and Black futurist imagination in direct conversation. Presented at Office Space Gallery, the four-part exhibition unfolds across August 8, 15, 22 and 29, 2026.
Blending original paintings, sculptural objects, projection mapping, sound, music and AI-generated visuals, Jones turns the gallery into a responsive environment rather than a conventional white-box exhibition. The work draws from Afrofuturism, internet culture, industrial design, Detroit music and Jones’s engineering background to explore a future in which human beings and machines are no longer separate, but collaborators.
At the center of NOISE is a question: How do we maintain the human signal through the noise of the future? Rather than offering a simple technological utopia or dystopia, the exhibition invites visitors to slow down, disconnect from the constant stream of information and reconsider what authorship, creativity, attention and community might become.
“I think of the work as artifacts from a future that is still being negotiated,” Jones says. “Technology can amplify us, distort us or collaborate with us. NOISE creates a space where people can feel that tension instead of only talking about it.”
The exhibition opens Saturday, August 8 at 7:00 p.m. with an opening party. On Saturday, August 15 from noon to 5:00 p.m., visitors can attend a gallery tour, spend extended time with the work, meet the artist and view original artwork available for purchase. On Saturday, August 22 at noon, the series continues with a futurcasting roundtable focused on technology, culture and the futures Detroit communities want to build. NOISE concludes Saturday, August 29 with a closing showcase and final immersive experience celebrating the work, community and futures generated throughout the month.
NOISE is designed for artists, technologists, collectors, cultural leaders, internet natives, makers, dreamers and skeptics. It is also a distinctly Detroit proposition: experimental, engineered, musical and grounded in a city where industry and imagination have always shaped one another.
