Fans of Anime, Gaming and Japanese pop culture will be filling the Huntington Place this Halloween for the 19th Annual Youmacon – a four-day Japanese Anime and pop culture convention celebrating animation, video games, comics and art in Downtown Detroit. Festivities take place from dawn till after dusk starting at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Oct 31 through 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov 3.
Getting its name from the Japanese word, Youma, meaning demon or ghost, Youmacon is an all-ages festival with a mix of interactive games and events, cosplay/costuming, celebrity guest panels, artwork, and live musical performances featuring a host Bands and DJs for concerts and nightly dances. Fans will have the opportunity to show off their cosplay/costume skills, connect with their favorite artists, participate in gaming events, add to their memorabilia collections, and get the chance to meet the voices behind their favorite characters from anime and games.
Additional highlights include rooms dedicated to video games and table-top gaming, a charity costume ball, national musical artists, an internationally renowned costume competition, multiple gameshow events, and is host to massive 150,000+ sq foot Marketplace for shopping everything collectible from anime, artwork, figurines, costume props, and more. In prior years, Youmacon has drawn as many as 26,000+ attendees from across the world.
