Ori Reel International Film & Entertainment Festival call for filmmakers

ORI Reel Entertainment is set to transport attendees to the 1920s with the debut of the ORI Reel International Film & Entertainment Festival in the heart of Detroit. From September 20-22, Hart Plaza will be transformed into a vibrant celebration featuring a plethora of films, music, comedy, gourmet food, and drinks, accessible both in person and online. This inaugural event is more than a local festivity; it serves as a global platform highlighting artistic excellence from around the world. Ori Reel International Film & Entertainment Festival brings together industry leaders, emerging artists, and audiences to celebrate creativity and culture. “As the state legislature makes essential decisions regarding the film industry in Michigan, it’s more important than ever that we are ready to include voices that aren’t typically in the forefront of film,” said Ori Reel Entertainment & Festival Founder, Najanava Harvey-Quinn. “We want people who haven’t felt like they can submit their works and be taken seriously to submit. We are excited to share their voices.” ORI Reel invites filmmakers from across the globe to enter its Film Festival Competition. Categories include Narrative Feature, Documentary, Series, Short, and a Special Category, providing artists with a stage to showcase their work. “For me, it’s about the opportunity for people to show the beauty and what’s next in life,” said Ori Reel Entertainment Executive Producer of Fillm and Production, and owner of CEO of Afikay Media, Kaye Jernigan. “I would love to see films that are showing us urban neighborhoods in a good way. How they're reemerging or how there's always been good things in our communities, just underneath the surface that didn't get as much light.” Submissions are open from May 1 through July 31, 2024. The late entry cutoff is August 20. All chosen competitors have the opportunity to win prestigious awards and substantial cash prizes. For those unable to attend in person, ORI Reel offers virtual participation. Tickets are available now. Attendees can purchase individual tickets or opt for discounted festival passes, ensuring access to the festivities from anywhere. In addition, the ORI Reel Speakeasy Sessions will begin in May at the Herman Kiefer Development site, offering a series of pre-festival activities such as movie nights, panel discussions, networking opportunities, and field days. These events lead up to the main festival with glimpses into the film and entertainment expertise audiences can expect in September. Those attending 10 of the Speakeasy sessions will receive discounted tickets to the Ori Reel International Film & Entertainment Festival. “This is an opportunity to re-engage with the film industry in Metro Detroit,” said Ori Reel Executive Producer of Entertainment and Staging, Ray Tucker. “We want to see Detroit and Indie Film Makers have a space to showcase the work that is being created right here in Detroit by filmmakers from across the globe.” Everyone is invited to join this celebration of artistic expression and community at the 2024 ORI Reel International Film and Entertainment Festival.
