Join fellow celestial enthusiasts and astronomers for our overnight stargazing event! Enjoy provided snacks and breakfast, access to the Observatory, hands-on activities, a late night movie, and more!
The Perseid Meteor Shower will peak the weekend of August 9, as debris from the Swift-Tuttle comet burns up in the Earth’s atmosphere. As one of the most active shooting star displays of the year, expect to see 50 or more meteors every hour!
Hands-on activities include:
🌕 Exploring the grounds on a dusk nature walk
🔦 Joining an interactive flashlight tour of the Mineral Gallery
☄️ Investigating the asteroid that toppled the dinosaurs
🪐 Embarking on a Planet Walk to experience the scale of the Solar System
💫 Stopping in for a meteor-focused planetarium show
🌠 And more!
The event will begin at 6:45pm on August 10 with activities concluding at 8:00am on August 11. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be moved to an indoor format. This event is designed for ages 5 and up.
