The Preservation of Jazz Monday Night Music Series closes the month with an electrifying performance: The Bob White’s Hastings Street Band: A Tribute to Hastings Street—a night dedicated to the legacy of Detroit’s historic Black entertainment corridor and the musical spirit it birthed.
Hastings Street, once the heartbeat of Detroit’s Black Bottom, was alive with music, culture, and the sound of jazz echoing from every corner. From the 1920s to the 1950s, it was home to legendary clubs, hustlers, preachers, and some of the greatest jazz musicians to ever walk the earth. This tribute honors that golden era of swing, bebop, and blues-infused jazz with soul and fire.
Leading the celebration is Bob White, a beloved Detroit jazz fixture, whose band channels the raw essence and vibrant energy of Hastings Street’s heyday. With decades of experience, Bob White has performed with a who’s who of jazz greats, and his ensemble is known for tight arrangements, deep grooves, and a true connection to Detroit’s musical lineage. Hosted by Mike Bonner. Opener Lucretia Sain.
Join us at Aretha’s Jazz Café for a night of storytelling, rhythm, and tribute—one that connects generations and pays homage to the roots of Detroit jazz.
