As part of its yearlong bicentennial celebration, Ypsilanti First United Methodist Church is offering a guided walking tour of historic Highland Cemetery. The tour will be led by two members of the church's congregation, Highland Cemetery Vice Chair Barry LaRue, and Washtenaw County Historical Society President Karen Jania, who also serves as the church's archivist. Highlights will include the gravesites of notable Ypsilanti First UMC congregants, those of prominent Ypsilantians, and the site's architectural features, including a look inside the Starkweather Memorial Chapel, a Richardsonian Romanesque structure (1889) with Tiffany windows. Attendees are requested to assemble at the cemetery entrance, dressed in clothing and footwear appropriate for outdoor walking. This event is offered free of charge.
