Morning Coffee with Christine Brewer & the Masterworks Chorale
Masterworks Chorale & Christine Brewer Residency, February 24-26
Masterworks Chorale and Children’s Chorus will present A Masterworks Chorale & Christine Brewer Residency at the Hett on February 24-26, 2023. This collaboration with the Hettenhausen Center for the Arts at McKendree University features three events:
1. Morning Coffee with Christine Brewer & the Masterworks Chorale: Friday, February 24, 10:00 AM. Coffee, music, and conversation with Ms. Brewer, with Jazz Age favorites by members of Masterworks Chorale and Jazz Ensemble.
2. Master Class with Christine Brewer: Saturday, February 25, 2:00 PM. Open-to-the-public performances from opera and oratorio by talented young regional singers, with critiques and reflections by internationally-acclaimed soprano Christine Brewer.
3. Old Time Radio Show: Sunday, February 26, 3:00 PM. Popular music from the Age of Swing, with Swing era hits by Duke Ellington and Fats Waller, old favorites by George and Ira Gershwin, melodies from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma!, and songs from Irving Berlin’s Annie Get Your Gun. Featuring internationally renowned soprano Christine Brewer, with the Masterworks Chorale and Children's Chorus, Masterworks Jazz Ensemble, and hosted by guest Emcee Steve Jankowski.

One of Southern Illinois’ finest performing organizations, the Masterworks Chorale was founded in 1974 by Dr. A. Dennis Sparger while a professor at Belleville Area College (now Southwestern Illinois College). Dedicated to excellence in choral music, the Chorale performs an annual concert series at venues throughout Metro East and Saint Louis. The Chorale also sponsors the Masterworks Children’s Chorus. Dr. Stephen Mager has served as the Masterworks Artistic Director and Conductor since 2009.
