Meet the Authors: Shattering the Glass: The Remarkable History of Women’s Basketball
As the WNBA playoffs tip off, join us at the State Historical Building at 5:00 pm to meet the authors behind the book that tells the story of women’s basketball like never before.
Co-hosted by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, Pamela Grundy and Susan Shackelford will share their research, answer your questions, and sign copies of Shattering the Glass. Don’t miss this celebration of women’s basketball, history, and empowerment through sport!
ABOUT THE BOOK:
Shattering the Glass is the definitive history of women’s basketball—spanning generations of athletes who fought for liberation on and off the court. From college programs to the WNBA, and stars like Seimone Augustus, Pat Summitt, Breanna Stewart, Dawn Staley, Brittney Griner, Caitlin Clark, and more, this book explores the players and coaches who changed the game and led on issues of race, gender, and sexuality.
About the Authors:
• Pamela Grundy – Sports historian, author, and PhD from UNC Chapel Hill, currently working on a biography of basketball and tennis great Ora Washington.
• Susan Shackelford – Lifelong basketball fan and trailblazing sports journalist, recently completing Hoops and Heroes, a history of the Army women’s basketball team.
