The Phantom of the Opera: A Silent Film Performance by the Vivo Chamber Players
The Vivo Chamber Players, an ensemble comprised of the Simpson College Instrumental Music Faculty and guest professional string players, will perform the music for The Phantom of the Opera while the 1925 film rolls. The opera score was written and arranged by Dr. John Benoit, pianist for the production. Dr. Benoit is a music theory professor at Simpson College, a trombonist, and an arranger best known for his jazz compositions. The Phantom of the Opera is the fourth silent film for which the Vivo Chamber Players have provided the music and the sound effects based on a Benoit score.
The performance will occur on Friday, Jan. 31st, at 7:00 pm in the Smith Chapel on the Simpson College campus. The production is free and open to the public.
Children are welcome to attend. There will be one intermission halfway through the 90-minute movie.
