In 1969, Richard Nixon is in the first year of his third term. With the Vietnam War raging and anti-war protests disrupting the home front, he believes a pirate radio network in Western Pennsylvania is stoking the unrest. Paranoid, he turns to J. Edgar Hoover to “neutralize the network.”
College seniors, Art Weitz, and Alex Shea, hoping to “stick it to Nixon” and meet girls, start up a pirate radio station. Accidentally supercharging the station’s antenna, their radio signal travels to Pittsburgh, triggering the FBI and others to hunt them. Concerned but not alarmed, Art and Alex continue broadcasting. Stay tuned to Radio Free Pittsburgh for an action-packed story.
Edward N. McConnell and his wife, Cindy, formed McConnell Publishing, LLC in 2022 and their first project was to publish a short story anthology, Where Harry’s Buried and Other Short Stories. One of the short stories, Where Harry’s Buried, was selected for inclusion in two best-of-end anthologies, The Best of Mad Swirl and Running Out of Time, Down in the Dirt. That was followed in 2023 by the short story anthology, Disappearances at Dr. Snow’s and Other Short Stories. A third short story anthology, Sisterhood of the Pines was published in 2024.
Ed’s work has appeared in many literary magazines. All of his books are available at Beaverdale Books. Ed lives in West Des Moines, Iowa with Cindy.
