Iowa Poetry Association Bookfair & Signing

Join Barnes and Noble Jordan Creek in supporting the Iowa Poetry Association! We will have at least four authors here signing books on June 8th from 11 to 4. If you mention you're supporting the IPA, we'll donate a portion of your purchase to them (all day). The Iowa Poetry Association is a non-profit organization whose sole objective is to promote interest in and appreciation for better poetry by Iowans. Each year, IPA offers two workshops in the Des Moines area, where poems are critiqued by eminent teachers, editors or publishers. About the Authors Misty Urban is a medieval scholar, college professor, and the author of contemporary and historical romance. She likes books that take you new places, teach you new things, and end with a win. She currently lives in Muscatine, IA, but loves to drag her family to new places, which she describes as research trips. Dennis Maulsby lives in Ames, Iowa. His poems and short stories have appeared in The North American Review, Star*Line, The Hawai’i Pacific Review, The Sherlock Holmes Mystery Magazine, The Briarcliff Review (Pushcart nomination), and on National Public Radio’s Themes & Variations. His traditionally published books Near Death/Near Life, Free Fire Zone, Winterset, Heart Songs, and House de Gracie have won honors from the Eric Hoffer Awards, Global Ebook Awards, American Fiction Awards, Reviewers Choice Awards, and Military Writers Society of America Awards. Maulsby holds memberships in the Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers of America, the Science Fiction & Fantasy Poetry Association, and The Military Writers Society of America. He is a past president of the Iowa Poetry Association. Stephen L. Brayton is a Sixth Degree Black Belt and certified instructor with over 30 years experience in The American Taekwondo Association. He began writing as a child; his first short story concerned a true incident about his reactions to discipline. During high school, he wrote for the school newspaper and was a photographer for the yearbook. For a Mass Media class, he wrote and edited a video project. In college, he began a personal journal for a writing class; said journal is ongoing. He was also a reporter for the college newspaper. During his early twenties, while working for a Kewanee, Illinois radio station, he wrote a fantasy based story and a trilogy for a comic book. He has been involved broadcasting, trucking, hospitality, newspaper graphic design, and a pre-press camera operator at a publishing company. He has written numerous short stories both horror and mystery. Writing has provided for Jerrold Narland a means of capturing some of the places, people, emotions and events he experienced over the years in his lives as wanderer, nuclear physicist and rocket scientist. His poetry has been published in four books and several journals including Lyrical Iowa. Traveling much of the world during his life he now resides near Des Moines in the Iowa heartland. And though yet journeying out when adventure beckons, he finds that increasingly he is content to enjoy the comforts of home and hearth and to spend more of his time in writing and painting.
