Friends of Animals' World Environment Day Park Cleanup

Join our staff in making the environment safer and healthier for humans and wildlife! More than 400 million tons of plastics are produced globally each year, and shockingly, 33% of this waste still ends up in soils and fresh waterways and is harmful to wildlife. Here in Denver, the accumulation of plastic pollution and manmade debris is an ongoing issue in public parks—harming biodiversity, ecosystems and public health. It continues to enter our ponds, lakes and rivers, contaminating groundwater. At parks located along highways like Vanderbilt, trash piles up rapidly. By taking action to remove litter from our parks, we can prevent harm to wildlife, foster more robust ecosystems, support native plant growth and pollinator populations, improve habitat, mitigate the climate crisis, improve water and air quality and enhance public health. We hope you can join us! Volunteers must sign a waiver to participate, and can do so in person upon arrival. Note: Free parking will be available in the main parking lot next to the baseball field. WLP and Denver Parks and Recreation staff will greet you at the park tables on the west side of the lake to confirm your waiver and will provide supplies including grabbers, buckets and gloves. * Please remember the following: Bring your own gloves if you have them to limit single use waste. Garden gloves are appropriate. -Bring your own water jug and plenty of water. -Sunscreen and hats are recommended. -Dress appropriately for weather. -Wear sturdy footwear (no open toe shoes). -All children must be supervised. -Please note that companion animals/pets will not be allowed at this event.
