Community Outreach Concert by DSA Orchestra

DENVER – The Denver School of the Arts Full Orchestra conducted by Dr. Enrique Lasansky will be performing Selections from Prokofiev’s ROMEO AND JULIET Ballet, Opus 64, as a Community Outreach Concert on Saturday, January 20, at the Montview Boulevard Presbyterian Church at 1980 Dahlia St, Denver. The doors will open at 1:00 for the concert at 2:00 with a reception immediately following. The tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for students and are available at givebutter.com/hpIUvI The purpose of this concert is twofold: First, to introduce the talent of the current musicians in the Orchestra to the school’s neighborhood and to encourage other young musicians to audition to participate in this award-winning program. Secondly, members of this group will be traveling to Italy this spring to participate in a series of concerts in Rome, Venice and Florence. The funds raised through this concert will provide needed scholarships to students for travel expenses. This 82-piece group of musicians is made up of all members of the DSA String Orchestra as well as advanced students from the Piano, Band and Guitar Departments at DSA as well. They will be led by Dr. Enrique Lasansky, Director of Orchestras at DSA since 2013. Dr. Lasansky is a noted clarinetist and conductor who has been teaching in schools in Texas, Arizona and Colorado for over 25 years. The Colorado Music Educators Association is a prestigious organization within the educational community. Each year they conduct a conference at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs. As part of their activities each year, they invite outstanding high school musical groups and ensembles to perform at this conference. The program being presented in the January 20th concert will also be presented at the 2024 CMEA Conference later in January. Since 1991, Denver School of the Arts (DSA) has been the Rocky Mountain Region’s only public 6th-12th grade school for the arts. It is located in the former University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music at the intersection of Quebec and Montview. As a member of Denver Public Schools, DSA attracts promising young students seeking a challenging and inspiring environment in which to pursue their artistic passion. Acceptance into the program is by completion of a successful audition, portfolio and interview. Students of varying technical levels and abilities who demonstrate talent, potential and dedication to making art are welcomed at DSA. With an enrollment of over a thousand talented students in grades 6 through 12, the program includes classes in Music, Dance, Theatre, Creative Writing, Visual and Video Arts and Stagecraft and Design as well as a full academic schedule. The school prepares students who want to become professional musicians but also serves those wishing to pursue music for their own enrichment or to participate in community and college ensembles. Regional, national, and international travel is incorporated into the curricula as a means of providing opportunities to perform at competitions and festivals, expose students to world-class performers, and promote global awareness and evolving cultural ambassadorship.
