The Playground Ensemble and Leon Gallery are pleased to present a night of interesting sounds in an interesting space with “Unchambered,” their annual evening of experimental and improvised electronic music. The show features interactive electronics, manipulated voice, uniquely created instruments and more, and takes place at Leon Gallery, 1112 E 17th Ave in Denver on Friday, August 29, 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20, and are available at for purchase at www.playgroundensemble.org.
The program includes:
· “How the Light Loves to Fall” by Silen Wellington, Alia Goldfarb, Vocals
Silen Wellington, Electronics; written for two voices, this piece is a wordless immersive experience designed to invoke light pouring into velvety dark soils.
· “Known Input” by Conrad Kehn; a multimedia experiment for no input mixer, reactive video, live performers, and audience that incorporates manipulated excerpts of Allan Kaprow's anti-art 'How to Create A Happening.'
· “chorale prelude no. 3” by David Farrell; a quasi-improvised work layering fragments of a Bach chorale with a range of varied harmonic and textural backgrounds.
· “Shadow Speak” by Ryan Fiegl, generative feedback loops of live guitar and various premade and live samples.
Playground Ensemble is pleased to welcome guest artist Jakey Wherry to perform “improvisation” and guest David Britton to perform “According to Dissonance” on a collection of self-built electronic instruments.
The Playground Ensemble is a group of professional musicians, composers, educators and fans dedicated to presenting chamber music as a living art form. Their goal is to provide stimulating performances, expand common perceptions of both contemporary music and the chamber ensemble, and nurture a community around this music that they love. As a 501(c)3 nonprofit, they cultivate a thriving local composition community through a robust commissioning program and extensive education/outreach programs.
