Foothills Genealogical Society Class

Source documentation and citations are important components of every successful family history project. Citing sources creates a permanent “breadcrumb trail” that others can follow and enhances the credibility of research findings. It takes self-discipline and thoughtfulness, but well-documented research stands the test of time. This presentation begins with the basics, then digs deeper into evolving standards for documenting 21st-century sources. Discussion includes practical examples and step-by-step practice. Alice Hoyt Veen is a Board-certified genealogist, professional researcher, writer, and genealogical educator. She believes family history success lies in truly understanding the records our ancestors created. Alice founded Prairie Roots Research in 2010 with the mission of fostering a deeper understanding of the past by researching and reconstructing forgotten lives. Alice has spoken for national, regional, and state conferences, and for numerous local organizations. She is a past trustee for the BCG Education Fund, a charitable trust advancing the educational aims of the Board for Certification of Genealogists. Guests are welcome for this free online class. Register at http://www.foothillsgenealogy.org for the ZOOM link. Donations appreciated. For 42 years, Foothills Genealogical Society has supported genealogical research with educational programs, classes and field trips and by preserving and publishing historical records from Clear Creek, Gilpin, Jefferson and Park counties. Individual and family memberships are available at http://www.foothillsgenealogy.org.
