Disability Pride Celebration
This activity is free, and no registration is required. Disability Pride Celebration is on an SCFD Free Day. Visit the Museum from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for free!
What is Disability Pride? Disability Pride is a movement about:
– Celebrating diversity in bodies, minds, and ways of experiencing the world.
– Recognizing disability as an identity and culture.
– Honoring the contributions of people with disabilities.
– Understanding disability history and lived experiences.
– Recognizing ongoing barriers, stigmas, and ableism._Advocating for equity, inclusion, and accessibility.
– Building a sense of belonging and community.
This year, we are excited to feature Deaf artist Jaye Jones in a hands-on workshop to create a collective art piece. Participants will use acrylic markers on small prepared canvas pieces. The individual canvas pieces will be sewn together into one painting. Jaye is interested in exploring how separate voices can form a shared visual story. American Sign Language interpreters will be available.
