Tuesday Night Summer Socials: Samantha Erin, and "Bloomers, Backpacks, and the Outdoor Women"
Join the Center for Colorado Women's History every Tuesday evening in June, July, and August! We will be open late until 7:00 PM to enjoy free live music and company in our gardens.
From 5:00 - 7:00 PM, Samantha Erin will offer a free live performance in the museum gardens outside (weather permitting).
From 5:30 - 6:30 PM, "Bloomers, Backpacks, and the Outdoor Woman: The Gendered History of Marketing of Outdoor Gear" will be presented by Rachel Gross inside. Program tickets include General Admission benefits. Capacity is limited, so pre-reservation of tickets is encouraged. Redemption of your pre-reserved ticket includes a discount code to apply to Bloomers Tour admission at a later date.

About our partners:
Samantha Erin is a passionate singer-songwriter based in Northern Colorado. From starting her roots in choirs, musical theatre performances and jazz groups, Samantha has always had a deep love for performance and connecting with her community. Since her journey began Samantha has won the Northern Colorado Songwriters Series in 2023, collaborated with other local artists, started working on her EP (to be released in 2024), and has partnered with organizations uplifting women in the music industry. With her upcoming release, of personal stories of love, friendship, lust and heartache Samantha Erin’s lyrics and melodies are relatable, heartfelt and honest. Music performances are presented in collaboration with Athena Project.
"Bloomers, Backpacks, and the Outdoor Woman: The Gendered History of Marketing of Outdoor Gear": From the days of bloomers and buckskin, women have been active participants in outdoor recreation, both as producers of outdoor clothing and gear and as consumers. This talk traces the evolution of women’s clothing styles for camping, backpacking, and other leisure activities from the late nineteenth century to the present. By examining catalogs and outdoor stores, this talk also shows how outdoor companies appealed to women in marketing campaigns.
Rachel S. Gross is a historian of the outdoor industry and author of Shopping All the Way to the Woods: How the Outdoor Industry Sold Nature to America (Yale University Press, 2024). She is an Assistant Professor of History at the University of Colorado Denver.
