"Settling the Great Plains" will be presented by Glenn York, Professional Genealogist, at the Foothills Genealogical Society meeting on Wednesday, Nov. 13, at 1:00 p.m. in Golden. Guests are welcome for this live presentation or the virtual option. Please register.
The Great Plains region includes parts of ten different states. As settlers moved into this region, they were forced to adapt to a significantly different environment from the eastern states. This presentation will focus on the challenges and solutions these settlers encountered. They often obtained land from the Federal Government through a variety of homestead laws and methods. Learn about the common processes as well as unique ones used in specific areas and/or periods of time. Find out about the genealogical value of these records and how to access them.
Most of Glenn’s immigrant ancestors came to Colonial America and many of their descendants homesteaded in the Great Plains. He has done extensive research in the area.
A member of the Association of Professional Genealogists, Glenn facilitates monthly DNA study groups for two area genealogical societies and the state wide Advanced DNA Study Group. He teaches genealogy classes, and volunteers at a local library. He has decades of research experience at numerous facilities across the United States.
Guests are always welcome. Register at https://foothillsgenealogy.org for the meeting at Applewood Valley United Methodist Church, 2035 Ellis St, Golden, or to receive the ZOOM link.
