Synopsis
Based on Louisa May Alcott’s beloved novel, Little Women follows the lives of the March sisters as they grow up, dream big and navigate love, loss and self-discovery in Civil War-era America. This musical celebrates the strength of family, the power of storytelling, equality, female empowerment and perseverance against all odds. It has a trifecta of beautiful music, humor, and heart.
Louisa May Alcott was one of the first American women to have their work published during 1800s in a male dominated industry. She often published under a male pseudonym so she could earn money for her work. She based the novel on her own family with her as the protagonist Jo March trying to get published with her sisters, Meg, Beth and Amy March. Alcott proved her merit when “Little Women” was an immediate and massive success, both critically and commercially and remains a literary classic. The novel’s financial success provides Alcott with a stable income for the rest of her life. Its enduring appeal is reflected in its continued popularity, numerous adaptations, a large dedicated fan base across generations.
