Edgemere Senior Living Engages Community with Free Film Festival Showcasing Great Texas Stories

In partnership with the Dallas International Film Festival, Edgemere Senior Living is further connecting residents with the surrounding community by offering free admission to the first-ever Edgemere Film Fest this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, October 24-26. Featuring conversations with the filmmakers who brought a trio of great Texas stories to life, Edgemere Film Fest includes red carpet photos, music, cocktails and screenings of “The Old Man & The Gun,” “12 Mighty Orphans” and “The Alamo” at Edgemere’s state-of-the-art Performing Arts Center at 8523 Thackery Street in Preston Hollow, Texas. Audiences of all ages are invited to gather to appreciate the timeless value of senior voices in cinema and the enduring power of film to challenge how we view growing older. All films begin at 1:30 p.m. with check-in beginning at 12:30 p.m and filmmaker Q&A to follow moderated by James Faust, Artistic Director of the Dallas International Film Festival and Jeff Amann, COO and President of Certus Living. “We believe that aging is not an epilogue. It’s a vital and rich chapter worthy of artistic exploration and celebration,” said Amann. “The Edgemere Film Fest celebrates aging as a vibrant, relevant and evolving experience – both on screen and in real life.” Edgemere Film Fest kicks off Friday with the “The Old Man & The Gun” starring Robert Redford, Casey Affleck and Sissy Spacek in the true story of Forrest Tucker and his audacious escape from San Quentin at the age of 70 to an unprecedented string of heists that confounded authorities and enchanted the public. Conversation follows with movie producer James M. Johnston. Then on Saturday, “12 Mighty Orphans” hits the big screen starring Luke Wilson, Vinessa Shaw, Wayne Knight and Martin Sheen followed by Q&A with producer Houston Hill. Based on a true story, the movie showcases a high school football coach who is haunted by his past but leads a scrawny team of orphans to the state championship during the Great Depression and inspires a broken nation along the way. And finally on Sunday, catch “The Alamo” starring Dennis Quaid, Billy Bob Thornton, Patrick Wilson and Jason Patric followed by Q&A with film historian and cast member Gordon K. Smith. The movie is based on the 1836 standoff between a group of Texan and Tejano men, led by Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie, and Mexican dictator Santa Anna's forces at the Alamo in San Antonio, TX. Faust said, “We’re shining a light on powerful portrayals of older adults, uplifting the contributions of senior actors and filmmakers and exploring stories that challenge outdated stereotypes about aging.” Admission is FREE, but reservations are required at 469-772-6942 or [email protected]
