Flamenco Dance Illustrates the story of “CARMEN” Just Dance and Orchestra Not Your Grandma’s Opera! Back by popular demand! Like you’ve never seen before, sensational Flamenco dancer Liliana Ruiz, with Maestro Daniel Spalding and his 22 piece orchestra, perform a unique interpretation of Bizet’s “Carmen” as arranged by Russian composer Rodin Shchedrin. They bring to Uptown! Knauer Performing Arts Center an exclusive production designed to leave audiences not just entertained, but enthralled.
Liliana Ruiz specializes in Classical Spanish Dance with castanets, brilliant costumes, Folklore and Flamenco. She has shared the stage with such celebrities as Julio Iglesias at the Premier Club, Peter Nero and the Philly POP’s at the Kimmel Center and in Carmen with Placido Domingo at the Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City.
Maestro Spalding is recognized as “one of the most innovative conductors on today’s music scene” (L. Budman, Miami Herald). He and the Philadelphia Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra have dazzled audiences from L.A. to New York’s Lincoln Center and from Rio de Janeiro to Moscow’s iconic Tchaikovsky Hall with unique and powerful performances, re-defining the classical music experience. Their CD recording of “Carmen” was a Grammy finalist, using drums, marimbas and xylophones to bring forth the authentic flavor and syncopated rhythms of the music.
