Special Screening of You Just Can't See Them From the Road
A special screening of the award-winning documentary, "You Just Can't See Them From the Road" will take place on Thursday, March 27th at the Livermore 13 Cinema, located at 2490 First St, Livermore, CA 94550. Doors will open at 5:30 pm, and the feature presentation will begin at 6:00 pm. Following the screening, there will be a special Q&A session with members of the Koopmann Family, providing an intimate look at the life of a working ranching family and the challenges they face. The evening will conclude with a reception featuring light hors d'oeuvres, offering guests the chance to connect and learn more about the important work of ranching in California and rangeland conservation.
About the Film:
An immigrant family in California’s Central Valley faces the loss of their land and way of life. One of the few remaining ranching families in the Bay Area watches urban sprawl creep in from every direction. Cowboys work in the shadow of the historic Hearst Castle. Wildlife find refuge on the biggest expanse of private land in Southern California. One of the largest Black landowners in the state discovers Native American artifacts on his ranch. Presented by California Rangeland Trust and directed by Keely Brazil Covello and Michaela Brazil Gillies, "You Just Can’t See Them From the Road" is a documentary portrait of modern West Coast ranchers—invisible to and misunderstood by the rapidly modernizing society they sustain. Specifically, the film highlights the struggles and triumphs of the Koopmann Family, as well as the broader significance of ranching in sustaining California’s natural resources for the benefit of all Californians.
"You Just Can’t See Them From the Road" been included in nearly 30 film festivals around the country and has garnered more than a dozen awards, including: Best Documentary, Best First-time Director, and Best Cinematography.
