Join La Mar Cocina Peruana and Cunamacue, the Oakland-based Afro-Peruvian dance company, to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. They are teaming up for a one-hour class exploring two beloved traditional styles of Peruvian dance: the playful Zamacueca and the high-energy Festejo.
Led by Cunamacué’s instructors and accompanied by live percussion, the class welcomes dancers of every level — no previous experience required. More than learning the steps, it is an opportunity to experience traditions that have helped preserve and celebrate Afro-Peruvian identity through generations.
