Hal Brown Park Restoration Project

The rainy season has been saturating the soil and causing flooding! Wouldn’t it be good if there was more marsh land for a natural flood plain to prevent water getting to your house? Healthy marsh mud helps absorb the storm water and prevent flooding into neighborhoods! Hal Brown Park used to all be marsh land. Now half of the park has been restored, while the other half still needs help! The Watershed Stewards Program, Friends of Corte Madera Creek Watershed, Marin Water, and Marin County Parks are asking you to help restore the park by removing invasive Plantago plants and planting native pickleweed plants to restore the natural balance! There will be an optional talk given about the importance of a marsh and the species that live in it! Please Bring: 1. Appropriate attire for field work. For safety purposes, wear close-toed shoes (preferably with ankle support), long sleeves and pants, and layers 2. Reusable water bottles 3. Sunscreen and/or a hat 4. A positive attitude! Native plantings and invasive removal is good, fun, dirty work! We will provide snacks, water, and all necessary equipment for planting/removal. A safety orientation will be given at the beginning of the day to keep the fun as safe as possible. The Watershed Stewards Program (WSP) is dedicated to improving watershed health by actively engaging in restoration science, civic service, and community education while empowering the next generation of environmental stewards. A program of the California Conservation Corps, WSP is one of the most productive programs for future employment in the environmental field. WSP is administered by CaliforniaVolunteers, the Office of the Governor and sponsored by AmeriCorps and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
