Look Up Art Reception on March 16 in Benicia
JoAnn Ugolini lives and works in Berkeley, California, and Rome, Italy. Her work includes paintings, collages, and monoprints. Over the last 25 years, she has exhibited in Berkeley, San Francisco, and Rome. Her current paintings and drawings on canvas and Yupo build on the breakup of color and interrupted gestures; a search for a path; entanglement of chaos; and the bright light of resolution. Denise Hillman is a Bay Area painter who has worked in a number of creative media in the past including clay sculpture, stained glass, mosaic, and drawing. She paints what she feels a strong connection to, including abstract, figurative, and everyday moments of life. “I strive to capture emotion in my work that speaks to others, using paint to express the feeling that first drew me to my subject,” Hillman says. Look Up reflects both artists’ search for a moment in time and the complexity of visual and emotional space.
Gallery 621 is a member co-op and features contemporary artists working in a variety of media including painting, printmaking, and sculpture. The gallery is dedicated to increasing public awareness of contemporary art within the community of Benicia and the greater San Francisco Bay area.
