Tri-Valley Cultural Jews Launches New School Year: A Humanist Jewish Cultural Journey Begins This August
Castro Valley, CA — August 24, 2025 — Tri-Valley Cultural Jews is excited to announce the start of a new school year at its Jewish Culture School, a vibrant and inclusive secular education program rooted in humanist values. Beginning this August, the school welcomes children ages 5 through Brit Mitzvah for a joyful, hands-on journey into Jewish identity through culture, creativity, and community.
This year’s theme is Social Action, showing students how to connect with their heritage not only through stories and traditions, but by engaging with the world around them—building empathy, awareness, and a deep sense of shared responsibility. They will explore the history of Jewish activism in the labor movement, civil rights, immigration and other movements for social justice.
At JCS, kids will:
Sing: Music classes will bring English, Hebrew, and Yiddish songs to life—helping kids explore the rich diversity of Jewish voices across time and place.
Dance: From hora circles to modern steps, students will celebrate Jewish life through movement and rhythm.
Create: Art projects will draw inspiration from Jewish holidays, history, and activism—encouraging personal expression and cultural pride.
Cook: In the kitchen, young chefs will get hands-on with classic Jewish recipes and modern twists, learning how food connects us to family and values.
Make a Difference: Through age-appropriate social action projects, students will explore how Jewish ethical traditions inspire acts of kindness, justice, and community care.
Classes meet twice a month and are open to children from all backgrounds and family structures. No prior Jewish education is required—just curiosity, creativity, community and a sense of fun.
