Carquinez Village Presents: Preventing and Managing Diabetes
Carquinez Village Speaker Series will host Hanna Rifkin, a registered dietitian and certified diabetes care and education specialist, as the featured speaker for the program at 10:30 am Thursday, August 15, 2024, at the Benicia Public Library, 150 East L St. in Benicia.
Rifkin has been working as a registered dietitian in various chronic diseases for about 10 years, and was motivated to become a dietitian by her lifelong love of cooking. When she learned of the high rate of type 2 diabetes (about 10% in the United States, according to the Center for Disease Control), and that what determines outcomes is modifiable, she decided to specialize in diabetes.
Her presentation will address several topics including: prediabetes, type 2 diabetes, cholesterol and blood pressure. She will further discuss using nutrition and lifestyle to prevent and manage these conditions.
The program is free and open to the public. A question and answer session will follow the presentation.
The mission of the Carquinez Village is to help Benicia and Vallejo seniors to stay in their homes and to enrich their lives through connecting, supporting, and inspiring them.
