Carquinez Village Presents: Emergency Preparedness for Seniors

Wild fires, earthquakes, landslides and flooding – In California there is a wide menu of disasters that can strike. Emergency preparedness increases the chances for positive outcomes and survival. Carquinez Village Speaker Series will host a representatives from Benicia Fire Department and the Solano Sheriff Department to provide the latest information on effective emergency preparedness strategies. The program will be held at 10:30 am Thursday, September 19, 2024, at the Benicia Public Library, 150 East L St. in Benicia. The program is presented as part of National Emergency Preparedness Month, the Participants will learn how to prepare for any emergency, and more specifically a fire, with tips about water supply, pet preparations, fire extinguishers and having key personal contact numbers saved for reference. The presentation will cover how senior citizens can inform their local fire department that they live alone and/or may be vulnerable should an emergency require evacuation. The Sheriff Department will share more information on the county evacuation plan. Additionally, there will be discussion about how the Carquinez Village is organizing to keep seniors connected about and during emergencies. This includes email blasts and online alert systems. The program is free and open to the public. A question and answer session will follow the presentation. Decaf coffee and doughnuts will be provided. The mission of the Carquinez Village is to help Benicia and Vallejo seniors to stay in their homes and to enrich their lives through connecting, supporting, and inspiring them.
