Inaugural Flag Retirement Ceremony - Sponsored by Veterans Groups of Fairfield-Suisun

Sponsored by the Fairfield-Suisun Veterans Organizations of the Suisun Veterans Memorial Building and the American Armory Museum. The Inaugural Flag Retirement Ceremony will begin at 5:00 PM with an educational program that will include a guided tour of the museum and an educational opportunity to learn about the different American flags throughout history, including flag etiquette, flag folding, and raising and lowering. At 6:00 PM, a worn flag will be lowered from the flagpole, folded, and presented to the Color Guard. The retiring (burning) of our National Ensign will then take place at the fire pit, where the ceremony will continue with more retirements. Flag Day is not a widely celebrated occasion, and many people are not aware of the significance of a flag retirement ceremony or the history of the various American flags. We cordially invite you and would be honored if you could attend this special inaugural event. If you have a worn flag to retire, please bring it the day of the event to exchange for a new 3'x5' flag while supplies last. Alternately flags can be deposited during business hours into the Veteran organizations' red, white, and blue mailbox that will be at American Armory Museum the entire month of May, up to the event date. The Suisun Veterans Memorial Building Veteran Organizations include the American Legion Reams Post 182, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and Auxiliary Post 2333. Along with the Military Order of Cooties and 40/8.
