Carquinez Village Presents: Assistive Technology

If there is a right tool for every task, what tools might help elderly individuals maintain an independent lifestyle? The many answers to that question address the subject of assistive technology. The Carquinez Village Speakers Series will host Eddie López, assistive technology specialist, of Independent Living Resources (ILR) of Solano and Contra Costa Counties. The program will be held at 10:30 am, Thursday, March 16, at the Benicia Public Library, 150 East L Street in Benicia. ILR provides an Assistive Technology Re-use program that provides gently used donated medical equipment for disabled consumers of all ages, free of charge to low-income seniors. López has worked more than 10 years delivering service the disabled and the underserved populations in the two counties. He provides information, resources, and assistive technology to help clients live an independent life. He is a member of the statewide Assistive Technology Network. He can connect disabled Californians to a wide variety of services such as: information and referral, re-use programs, device lending libraries, and financial loan programs for assistive technology services, among other services. “My most relevant achievement has been, to put a smile on the faces of clients when I help them find the correct assistive technology that improves their lives,” López said. He also assists underserved Spanish-speaking clients within the community to attain services and resources. A question and answer session will follow the presentation. The mission of the Carquinez Village is to help Benicia and Vallejo seniors to stay in their homes and to enrich their lives through connecting, supporting, and inspiring them. More information about the Carquinez Village is available at www.carquinezvillage.org or by calling 707-297-2472.
