Ode to Our Sister Circle

The Ode to Our Sister Circle (Columbus, OH - 3/21 & 3/22) performance centers the story of three friends and the collective care and healing they produce through their sister circle. They use a fusion of dance, theater, and video projection to demonstrate a bold love of Black women in process and product. The artists use games and activities to ignite audiences and create a space of care, compassion, and community support. In this performance and talk-back, we challenge cultures of hyper-individualism, hypervigilance, and dissemblance that isolate and harm Black women. Instead, Ode to Our Sister Circle fosters a community experience that celebrates the healing power of Black women supporting one another. Thick Like Me (TLM) is a new dance-based nonprofit dedicated to body liberation and promoting holistic health within the dance community and beyond. Through education, performance, creative collaboration, and advocacy, we seek to uplift the labor, artistry, and unique knowledge of thick Black women in dance and beyond.
