One Million Steps for OCD Walk

It is estimated that 1 in 100 adults and 1 in 200 children live with OCD. Despite its prevalence, OCD is often misunderstood and misrepresented in the media as a personality quirk or helpful trait that keeps people organized. In reality, OCD is debilitating and severely impacts those living with the disorder, as well as their friends and family. Co-hosted by the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF) and OCD Midwest, the One Million Steps for OCD Walk is the nation’s largest grassroots awareness-building and fundraising campaign to highlight OCD and related disorders, including body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) and hoarding disorder (HD). This OCD Walk aims to reduce the stigma associated with OCD and mental illness in general and funds raised support the important work of the IOCDF and its partnering Affiliates. Under the larger umbrella of the IOCDF, the mission of OCD Midwest is to help increase awareness about OCD, reduce stigma, provide education and training for therapists to develop expertise in treating OCD, and to therefore provide more access to high-quality, evidenced-based treatment for OCD across Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois. The Columbus OCD Walk, a 3 mile walk along ADA compliant trails, will be held at Sharon Woods Metro Park on Oct 5, 2024. The walk is open to all ages and is free to attend! Plus, all adult walkers who donate and/or fundraise at least $25 will receive a commemorative t-shirt while children under 13 will receive a free t-shirt just by attending! Check-in and registration are from 9:30-10:00am. To open the event we will feature several speakers who will bravely share their stories in the spirit of shared community and support and also to spread awareness for attendees who may be unfamiliar with the impact of OCD and related disorders. After walking, check out the raffle with prize packages including many local products and services! Get your tickets to try to win items such as gift cards to Schmidt's Sausage Haus and Nothing Bundt Cakes, fresh flowers from Westerville Florist, dance lessons from Fred Astaire Dance Studio, a private tour at Watershed Distillery, tickets to a show at BalletMet, a session with Kent Smith Photography (a $500 value!) and much more! By now you will have worked up an appetite, so you may choose to visit the Pitabilities food truck which will be on site. Spend the afternoon socializing and find out if your a winner in the raffle! The event will conclude by 2:00pm. Visit iocdf.org/walkcolumbus to view our walk page and register to attend. You can register to fundraise on your own or join a fundraising team! We look forward to seeing you at the OCD Walk on Oct 5th! However, If you're unable to attend we encourage you donate to our cause. The IOCDF is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that does not receive any funding from state/federal agencies (EIN 22-2894564). All donations made to the IOCDF are tax-deductible.
