Many people keep their reproductive health hidden from friends and family, from infertility to early pregnancy to abortions to miscarriages. Yet, this personal secrecy is in direct odds with commercial data sharing—in reality, there is a vast data ecosystem collecting and monetizing all aspects of reproductive health. The recent Supreme Court decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization brings the harms of this lack of reproductive health data privacy into stark relief, highlighting how intimate health data can be leveraged to identify and prosecute those individuals seeking abortions. Now, more than ever, privacy protection of all reproductive health information is desperately needed.
