Quilters: The Musical
Nominated for six Tony awards, including Best Book and Best Musical, Quilters traces the exciting and heroic journey of American pioneer women through a dramatic tapestry of scenes and songs, celebrating their courage, resilience and love of family – a true valentine from the pioneer west. The story of their journey is told by Sarah Bonham and her daughters through quilt patterns or blocks, with each block representing a “piece” of their lives. The talented ensemble cast includes Debi Young as Sarah Bonham, along with daughters portrayed by Diane Gilbert, Christi Pirkle, Shelby Sessler, Catherine Kelly and Stephanie Villamizar. Quilters is under the direction of Donna Wilson, with musical direction and accompaniment provided by Dr. Gregory Boatwright and choreography by Cindy Flach. Patrick Faulds is scene designer and technical director for the production. General admission is $20, and tickets are available at the door and online at www.broadriverartscenter.org. The Broad River Arts Center, a new arts venue offering a variety of concerts and theatre productions, is located on the premises of Virginia Wingard Memorial United Methodist Church at 1500 Broad River Road, Columbia.
