Heights Chamber Orchestra Concert


Dean Buck, guest conductor, is a Cleveland-based conductor, serving as Assistant Conductor and Chorus Master with Cleveland Opera Theater. His conducting has been described as "fearless and firm" (Cleveland Classical,) and "maintaining a constant, flexible rapport with singers." (New York Observer.) With Cleveland Opera Theater, he has worked as assistant conductor/chorus master on their productions of “La Boheme,” “La Traviata, “Madama Butterfly.” Previously, Dean served as principal conductor of the New York City-based company LoftOpera. With LoftOpera, he conducted eight productions including their critically acclaimed stagings of Puccini's "La Boheme”. Dean has recently served as guest conductor for Heights Chamber Orchestra and Suburban Symphony Orchestra, and assistant conductor for the Mediterannean Opera Studio and Festival in Caltagirone, Sicily. He holds a masters degree in orchestral conducting from the Cleveland Institute of Music. Jaye Benjamin, clarinet, is a founding member of the Heights Chamber Orchestra, and has enjoyed collaborating with the ensemble's amateur and professional musicians since 1982. A child of oboe and clarinet players, Jaye began studying music at age 6. He studied clarinet with Mr. Harry Golub from ages 9 to 18. He played in concert bands at Wiley Junior High School and Cleveland Heights High School and performed with the Heights High School Orchestra and stage band. The recipient of a music grant, Jaye attended the University of Kentucky where he was concertmaster of the wind ensemble for four years. After earning a degree in Metallurgical Engineering, Jaye earned an M.D. from the University of Cincinnati and then completed his residency in Dermatology at the Cleveland Clinic. He established a private practice in 1982 in Willoughby, Ohio. Jaye enjoys spending time with family and his standard poodle, Onyx. He is an avid cyclist, photographer, golfer, and orchid grower. Jaye is grateful for the relationships he's built with Heights Chamber Orchestra members over the years and looks forward to participating in the group for years to come. Orchestra will be performing: Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Overture to The Song of Hiawatha, Op. 30, No. 3 Claude Debussy, Première rhapsodie for clarinet Robert Schumann, Symphony No. 3 in E-flat major, Opus 97 All are welcome to the free concert! Free will offering.
