Thomas More University Observatory presents The Solar System's Time Capsules: Unlocking the Secrets

7 p.m. - Lecture (Steigerwald Hall – Saints Center) with Dr. Austin Hinkel 8 p.m. Night Sky Viewing (Observatory - weather permitting) Around 5 billion years ago, our solar system was a disk of dust and rubble. Over time, these bits of matter coalesced into the planets -- including Earth. However, some of this material survived the planetary formation process relatively unscathed, existing today in the form of asteroids and comets. These small bodies of the solar system are more than merely 'leftovers' -- indeed, they are 5-billion-year-old time capsules that allow scientists to understand the formation of our solar system. Join us to learn about recent missions intended to unlock the mysteries of these cosmic leftovers! This event is free, open to the public, and appropriate for all ages. No reservations are required. thomasmore.edu/observatory
