Carolyn Finney is a cultural geographer, storyteller and scholar whose groundbreaking book “Black Faces, White Spaces” confronts the long history of exclusion in outdoor spaces.
Adventure Crew is thrilled to welcome Dr. Finney as the keynote speaker for Summits & Horizons, our signature fall fundraising event! Join us on Thursday, Oct. 30 at Memorial Hall in Over-the-Rhine to celebrate Adventure Crew’s growth and the powerful ways its teens are shaping their futures in the outdoors.
“Dr. Finney’s work raises a crucial question: Whose stories do we tell about the outdoors, and whose voices have been missing? She challenges us to see the outdoors not as neutral ground, but as a place where representation, equity and belonging must be claimed and nurtured,” Adventure Crew Executive Director Libby Hunter said.
At Adventure Crew, we embrace that challenge, ensuring city teens in Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky see themselves as leaders in and a vital part of the outdoor story.
Summits & Horizons kicks off with a social hour at 5:30 p.m., with the presentation beginning at 6:30 p.m. In addition to Dr. Finney’s keynote, you'll hear from Adventure Crew teens and have the chance to participate in a fun auction-style paddle raise.
