Join us for a vibrant celebration of Indian culture at the Indian Cultural Festival, presented by Kennedy Heights Arts Center in partnership with SOS ART. This free event will take place on Saturday, August 10, 2024, from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The festival offers an exciting opportunity to immerse yourself in India's rich traditions and artistic heritage.
The day's program is filled with engaging activities and performances:
Curator Guided Tours of "Voices from India" Exhibition: Begin your journey with a guided tour of the captivating "Voices from India" exhibit, featuring a diverse range of artwork that explores India's cultural landscape. Tours will be held at 12:15 pm and 5:00 pm, providing insightful commentary and an opportunity to engage with the art.
Live Performances: Enjoy an array of live performances, starting with an Indian drum recital by Orijeet Haldar at 1:00 pm. This will be followed by a semi-classical dance performance by Titli from the Nrityarpana School of Performing Arts at 1:30 pm. At 2:00 pm, Dr. Abhinav Srivastava will present Hawaiian guitar instrumentals of popular Hindi film songs, offering a unique musical experience. At 2:30 pm, Khwab Theatre will showcase the culture of Bengal through songs, poetry, and music. The day continues with a Hindustani music performance on sitar and tabla by Stefan Fiol and James Feist at 3:00 pm. Finally, enjoy a poetry reading at 3:30 pm by Aarav Kad, Preeti Parikh, Lalita Satyal, and others, sharing their creative expressions.
Creative Activities: Throughout the day, engage in various creative activities. From 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm, participate in poetry writing, guided by John Cruze. From 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm, explore artistic expression through drawing and other art forms facilitated by talented artists. These activities are open to both youth and adults, offering a chance to explore your creativity.
Food Vendors: Savor authentic Indian flavors with delicious offerings from MaanKi Thali and Zayka - Taste of India. Enjoy a variety of Indian street food and culinary delights throughout the event.
