Storytime with Elysse Wagner and Mikayla Sharpshair sharing Manatees Are Mermaids Too!
This colorful, curious picture book will inspire littles to see beyond that of physical form and stereotypes, and understand that we are all alike in many ways, despite appearances. Written and illustrated by two young mothers, it is our hope that this story provides entertainment and education to young readers and families alike.
Elysse Wagner is both a new author and new mom. After working in the book publicity industry as a senior campaign strategist and publicist, she decided to take some time off from her full-time career after the birth of her son, and try her hand at this side of the pen. Also an avid blogger and self-proclaimed "compulsive reader", her Instagram presence has surpassed 20,000 followers. Her reviews have been featured in Marie Claire, Oprah's Book Club, Read With Jenna, and Good Morning America (GMA) Book Club online. A proud Cincinnatian from birth and University of Cincinnati alum where she studied Creative Writing, Elysse currently lives in Dayton, Ohio, with her husband, son, and yellow lab. Manatees Are Mermaids Too! is her first children's book.
Emerging artist Mikayla Sharpshair embodies the spirit of artistic inspiration. Fueled by a lifelong passion for art, her talent finds expression across diverse mediums, ranging from oil paintings and pastels to intricate tapestries and handcrafted ceramics. As a mother of two, she finds inspiration in the everyday adventures shared with her children, often venturing to zoos and other enriching environments that ignite their imaginations. These shared experiences translate into her work, infusing it with a sense of wonder and a deep connection to the natural world.
