Cincinnati’s National Day of Racial Healing

The tri-state region will celebrate Cincinnati's 4th Annual National Day of Racial Healing with changemakers, social justice advocates, and community activists. Hosted by All-In Cincinnati and the Center for Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation at the University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati's National Day of Racial Healing will be held on January 16 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. This free and public session allows everyone to delve into their healing and learn about building a more just region through collaboration, advocacy, and policy change. The theme for the 2024 event is What We've Done and Where We Are Going – moving from being educated to policy change and impact. For the first time, Cincinnati's National Day of Racial Healing will be entirely in-person at Greater Cincinnati Foundation (720 E Pete Rose Way #120, Cincinnati, OH 45202). Taylor Curtis, YWCA Greater Cincinnati Director of Racial Justice and Equity, will deliver a state of race and racial equity in Cincinnati. She will share something Cincinnatians may not know — data, advocacy, and efforts to establish and sustain racial healing and equity in the region. Yalie Saweda Kamara, Cincinnati and Mercantile Library Poet Laureate, will offer a poetic expression of her experiences with race, racial healing, and advocating for equity for marginalized communities. In partnership with Visual Artist Brandon Black, Dr. Kamara will also moderate a discussion of nuanced and passionate supporters addressing inequities in Greater Cincinnati. The panelists are as follows: · Littisha Bates – Associate Dean for Inclusive Excellence and Community Partnerships at the University of Cincinnati within the College of Arts & Sciences · Gabriel Fletcher - Managing Director, Holloman Center for Social Justice · Candra Reeves - Senior Director of Data and Analytics, Urban League of Greater Southwestern Ohio · Royce Sutton – Senior Vice President, Community Impact at Fifth Third Bank Joe Mallory, Cincinnati NAACP president, will issue the call to action. Hamilton County Commission President Alicia Reece and Cincinnati City Councilor Meeka Owens will conclude the session with overviews of local government efforts and support for racial healing and equity in the region. Vocalist Chaya Jones and Revolution Dance will accompany these discussions with various artistic expressions. Cincinnati's National Day of Racial Healing is sponsored by All-In Cincinnati, University of Cincinnati Taft Center, Greater Cincinnati Foundation, Interact for Health, United Way of Greater Cincinnati, Carol Ann and Ralph V. Haile Jr. Foundation, Fifth Third Foundation, bi3, The Kroger Company, and Greater Cincinnati & Northern Kentucky African American Chamber of Commerce.
